WE SHOW OFF UNFINISHED THING NUMBER ONE

Behold! Unfinished Thing Number One!

This is a project I started back in.. August? July? June?

I saw something like it in a shop, and thought it was very cute. And we had some silverware flying around in the drawers that we never used when one or the other of us had the bright idea that it would be very neat to have a set of mismatched fancypants silver flatware for special occasions.

We got as far as place settings for two, and then we realized that we are SO not fancy silver-having people. While I admit that I do love me some ironing, I draw the line at polishing silver. And I didn't actually like using it. Silver conducts heat like a mofo, and stirring your tea with a silver spoon may sound all ritzy, but after the second time you burn holy hell out of your thumb trying to take the spoon out of the teacup, the thrill is kinda gone.

So I thought, hey, what a great use for that silverware! I'll make a windchime/mobile thingie out of it. Which will be nice and cute and decorative and most importantly, will get the stupid silver out of the kitchen drawer! I spent about two hours with a mallet and some pliers and a bench vise pounding it flat and smoothing it out and drilling itty bitty little holes in all the pieces with the drill press.

And I had some 100lb fishing line all ready to go, and a box full of carefully sorted beads from my jewelry-making stuff (which is yet another unfinished project, but we won't get into that). And then I brought all the finished pieces into my studio, laid them out on the table and decided to finish it... tomorrow.

Famous last words, right?

So, of course, there it sat for however many months it's been, with however many other bits of however many other projects being slowly heaped upon it until I couldn't see it anymore and it was a fond and distant memory until now. Now it is hanging up someplace where it can't burn anybody, and most importantly, OFF MY WORK TABLE!!

Today I will be making Christmas ornaments that I bought all the materials for back in September of aught-four. I'm actually kind of excited about them, because I managed to procrastinate for so long that they are now seasonally appropriate again.
